A clear ode to the newly-vogue Tribal Guarachero sound, "123" also draws upon a wide range of influences (that Expendable Youth are all big fans of) – from UK house music, to east coast sampled hip hop, chicago juke, dutch bubblin, and carefree LA filtered sunshine. Sound Pellegrino x Scion A/V Compilation

Scion A/V just slipped this brand new Sound Pellegrino "Straight From The Spring" compilation into our mailbox. If you didn't know, Sound Pellegrino is the brainchild of Teki Latex & Orgasmic (of Institubes fame). In their words "we love hard stuff when it's creative and groovy, and we love minimalist music when it's not boring nore serious. The first three Sound Pellegrino releases totally embody that state of mind."

Scion A/V presents: Sound Pellegrino – "Straight From The Spring" (zip file, direct link)

“Sound Pellegrino’s former mystery man Gucci Vump is back again with another inventive (and kind of creepy) track. “Shashtilism” updates Gucci Vump’s first single “Sha, Shtil!” with an even bigger klezmer influence and crazy ratatatatatatatatat drums.

Bambounou turns up the tempo with “Abodan,” a kicking combination of tribal percussion, laser pings and the whirls of a spaceship taking off back to the beginning of civilization.

Probably the mellow cut on this collection, Para One gets remixed by LA’s LOL Boys, bringing in spacious synth lines and understated vocal percussion.

Bart B More & Harvard Bass’ “Listen to This” hits hard from jump street with a pounding bassline and militaristic drums. From there things only get more commanding as the cross-continental duo of Bart B More and Harvard Bass piles on monumental build-ups and cliffhanger breakdowns.

Out One’s “Altamont” is a chill but pulsing track with a glitchy beat and dinner bell shine. Out One is an old friend of the Institubes crew, previously working with them as a mixer and a video director, but only started producing his own music in 2009. Welcome to our iTunes playlists!

Finnish house duo Renaissance Man’s Sound Pellegrino release from 2009 get a soulful remix from Paris’ dOP who offer a classic 4/4 beat, spoken word vocals, smooth keyboards and a hypnotic breakdown. It comes directly from outerspace(d out).

For this compilation, Momma’s Boy (an alter ego of Paris producer Mikix the Cat) brings “Bot Band Concerto.” The track sounds like it’s name would suggest – a futuro dancefloor smacker played by an orchestra of robots, blipping and blopping through the night.

On “Next Novel,” Myd & Sam Tiba manage to incorporate traces of house, electro, minimal, dubstep and Baltimore club into their track with impeccable European sophistication. We’re not sure what the sampled vocals are saying, but we’re pretty sure it’s not “Harry Potters,” like we originally thought.”

The Martin Brothers - "Steal Drums (Ex Youth Edit)"

The Dirtybird crew doesn't pop up around these parts often, but we definitely love and appreciate everything they do. However, we made an exception this time 'cause the new Martin Brothers track, "Steal Drums", has a roaring bassline that gives it instant bang0r status.

The original has some melodic stuff and techy breakdowns that made it less bang0r-y, so like the good bros we are we stripped all of that out, added a familiar vocal drop and presto, chango: "Steal Drums" is now a certified bang0r!

DJ Mehdi & Riton present: Carte Blanche

So I guess DJ Mehdi (FR) and Riton (UK) decided they had a lot in common-- namely a deep love for Chicago & Detroit house & techno-- so they decided to move in together, living an idyllic life for a year in Paris doing nothing but making tracks.

According to Mehdipedia, the result of this live-in collabo is a project called Carte Blanche and it's supposed to be dropping on Ed Banger Records soon... which is nice to hear, because those guys haven't done anything relevant (outside of maybe Breakbot) since 2007. Here's a preview:

Also, according to Mehdi “DJ MEHDI and RITON will tour as CARTE BLANCHE in May and June 2010, visiting all major cities in Europe and North-America. Four decks, one mixer, and a TR 909, of course. No bangers, strictly house music. Their first EP is set to drop on ED BANGER in May 2010 as well.”

After the great success of the Mystery Mix competition on Discobelle that we did together with DJ Neoteric (DJ/Producer and A&R for Dubsided) the idea for making it into a compilation came up, since most of the tracks were unreleased. It later grew into something bigger where Neoteric dug in his vaults, and put his ears to the street to gather this collection of great club tracks from friends and artists he’s been working with over the years. There’s something for everyone on this compilation, from speaker mashers, to house groovers, to pounding techno music, this compilation has it all! Planet | Turbo has begun! This is where the action will be at for the next little while: www.planet-turbo.com

Beginning on April 29 and continuing through August, Turbo will present a new series of events, headlined by Tiga. The shows will feature an incredible array of performers (Boys Noize, Erol Alkan, 2ManyDJs, Zombie Nation, Ivan Smagghe, PROXY, Sei A, Jori Hulkkonen, Thomas Von Party).

“We dreamt up the concept by the ecologically sustainable fireplace at Turbo Headquarters, located deep in the Mountains of Montreal,” says Tiga, calling from a mobile payphone. “The tour is something of a Victory Lap celebrating its own inevitable triumph. We’ve run the numbers, and we’ve talked to people from Main Street to Sweat Boulevard. We know what our party people want, and they’re going to get it so good.”

The “Planet Turbo” tour will be mirrored by the release of exclusive content, including remixes of Turbo and Tiga classics, plus new material from a veritable who’s-hooray of the biggest names in dance music. There will also be a wealth of bonus Web features, as Turbo artists and friends share their unbelievably unique perspectives on the countries visited.

“The tour will take us to the U.S., Canada, Holland, the UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, Australia, Serbia, Belgium, Portugal and Sweden. I did plenty of research beforehand, to make sure these places fit our definition of ‘planet’. We wanted to concentrate on the Earth’s surface, meaning we had to turn down a couple of dates at Magmafest and Crust Sensations,” says Tiga, removing an enormous drill from the front of his mixer.

“What we’re doing is like planting trees all over the world, but far more important. When you sow a funky idea in the soul of a young person, the sky ain’t no kind of limit. And I intend to reap, creep.”

Etienne de Crecy's 'Hope' EP was released digitally today via Pixadelic. The five free live tracks recorded from de Crecy's set in Bogota and released in support of his latest EP are still available online as well.

Djedjotronic and DIM round out the EP with no-bullsh*t remixes of the title track. Highly rec'd.

Heaps Decent

Heaps Decent, the brainchild of Diplo and other minds at Mad Decent is "an initiative committed to finding and nurturing the creativity of underprivileged and Indigenous young people and emerging artists. By providing resources and opportunities, Heaps Decent supports the development of high quality Australian music with a unique identity."

They recently sent over a mini-mix of original productions from the project that showcases the burgeoning talents of some indigenous, underprivileged youths alongside big names like A-Trak, Diplo, Pase Rock, etc:

Pony Pony Run Run

The remix package for Pony Pony Run Run's Walking on a Line is massive. Not just figuratively massive, like "Woah, that's a massive tune", but actually massive like "Woah, who didn't get to remix this?".

Now that I mention it, nobody didn't get to remix it (follow me?). Until April 26th PPRR are hosting a remix competition for Walking on a Line, and last time I checked the remix with the most votes was pretty much...  Well, just go check it out for yourself.

In the mean time the Walking on a Line remix EP, with re-dos by Lifelike, Beataucue, Mikix the Cat, Highbloo, the Subs, Blatta & Inesha, Rafale, and Raziek Funana, should give you a little inspiration (and will be freely available soon!).

Highbloo's debut release, My Sitar, is due out in one week on Belgian imprint Lektroluv (Sound of Stereo, the Subs, Crookers...) and his take on Walking on a Line gets my pick.
